                                           Compounding Training For Pharmacy Students

his summer, ACA launched the ACA Compound Academy, an
intensive 2-day hands-on course designed specifically for pharmacy
students and welcomed the first class to the ACA National Training
Laboratory in Bartlett, Tennessee. Taught by ACA Training Consultant
Nancy Stoehr, PharmD, students had the opportunity to explore exciting
field of pharmaceutical compounding. The Compound Academy curriculum
builds on the content typically found in pharmacy school and includes
quality, best practices, and current laws and regulations. With enrollment
limited to only 12 students per session, ACA Compound Academy
                                           maximizes student opportunity to learn.

“The ACA Compound Academy strengthened my knowledge in
compounding and gives me an edge when I go out into the job market
next year,” said Janna Denisenko, a P-4 student at Fairleigh-Dickenson
University School of‹Pharmacy‹& Health Sciences. “It showed me dosage
forms and techniques that I probably would never have seen in any other
                                           setting.”

Tuition for Compound Academy is $275 for the 2-day course, which
covers nine different dosage forms—powders, solutions, capsules, lollipops,
suppositories, semi-solids, suspensions, troches, and medicated
sticks—non-sterile documentation, calculations, quality control, labeling
requirements, lab safety, and personal protection.

For an additional $120 ($395 total), students have the option of adding on
a third day focusing on compounding niche markets with 4.5 more hours
of lab time. Student will practice with compounding automation, experiment
with incompatibilities, review unique dispensing devices, and learn extra
dosage forms, including veterinary compounds, gummy treats, and PLO.

has been an student,” said Alexandria Summerfield, a P-3 student from the University of
Georgia College of Pharmacy. “It’s a very relaxed atmosphere and we got
one-on-one support and one-on-one training. It’s been a really great
 extraordinary experience.”
