Beyond the Symptom: Pharmacy’s Functional Medicine Revolution

This SIG meeting will explore the foundational principles of functional medicine and how pharmacists can look beyond symptom management to better  understand the root causes of health concerns. Discussion will include the Functional Medicine Matrix, advanced specialty testing, and lifestyle and nutritional approaches to personalized patient care. Participants will explore how functional medicine principles can be incorporated into pharmacy practice, including opportunities for personalized consultations. The meeting will conclude with a discussion of three patient cases evaluated through a functional medicine lens.

Renee Prescott, PharmD, AFMC | F.A.M.E. Health and Wellness

Bio:  Dr. Renee Prescott is a functional medicine specialist, certified health coach, and pharmacist with over 20 years’ experience in the personalized medicine  industry. She has been a speaker and facilitator at 100s of conferences, as well as written articles and textbook chapters in the pharmaceutical space.  Renee graduated from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy in 2002 and received her Applied Functional Medicine Certification from the School of Applied Functional Medicine in March of 2024. In addition to owning F.A.M.E. Health and Wellness, Renee spends her time as the Senior Director of Education at PCCA where she creates and executes continuing education events.
